This resource is intended to be used to help teach the skills of the KS2 National Curriculum for Reading, by domain. Domains 2b and 2d are weighted more in these comprehensions to match the weighting of the end of KS2 Reading Comprehension assessment.
Included:
• SATs style comprehension questions for the prologue/preface and the twenty-seven chapters of the novel.
• A teaching PowerPoint with an introduction to the author, their other works and copies of the questions.

This resource contains an assessment tracker for Years 2-6.
Teachers input the names of children in their class and then their result in the end of block assessments into the spreadsheet.
The results in the spreadsheet will change colour to indicate, based on KS2 SATs threshold percentages, whether that child is working at Age Related Expectation or Greater Depth (approximately).
The spreadsheet automatically calculates every child’s total score, their average score, and the average score for each block based on whole class data. This can be used to inform intervention groups, a teacher’s area for development or to help with data submission to SLT throughout the year.
Keep in mind, this is NOT a question level analysis grid set for each block.

Two diary entries based on the same event (visiting the new school wildlife/garden area)
One is basically written with very little attempt at adding detail, high-level punctuation and complex sentences.
The other is of end of KS2 Standard.
I used this activity to get the children to realize that as teachers, we see pieces of text about the same event but the quality of the texts varies drastically. Which would they rather be writing? Which would I rather be reading? Why? Explain why one is better than the other.
